Wheelchair-bound pedestrian killed near Charleston and Durango intersection

Fatal crash occurs blocks from Metro’s identified dangerous intersection
A man in a wheelchair died Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle in the west Las Vegas valley, adding another tragic statistic to the area’s mounting traffic fatalities.
The incident occurred just before 7:20 p.m. near Charleston Boulevard and Heavenly Hills Court, close to Durango Drive. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers responded to find the wheelchair-bound pedestrian critically injured.
Despite paramedics administering CPR at the scene and rushing the victim to a local hospital, the man was pronounced dead from his injuries. Police have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of family members.
Traffic impact and investigation
Charleston Boulevard was closed in both directions east of Durango Drive as Metro’s fatal crash investigators processed the scene. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada alerted drivers to seek alternate routes during the closure.
Details about the driver involved or potential charges have not been released as the investigation continues.
Part of larger safety concern
The fatal crash occurred just blocks from the Charleston Boulevard and Durango intersection, one of the 12 most dangerous intersections recently identified by Metro police for increased enforcement.
This marks the 109th traffic-related death within LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2025, pushing the department further from its goal of limiting fatalities to 125 or fewer for the year. The proximity to one of Metro’s targeted enforcement zones underscores the ongoing challenges in reducing pedestrian deaths on valley roadways.
Metro’s new initiative specifically targets dangerous intersections with increased patrols and citations, focusing on speed enforcement, impairment detection, and failure to yield violations—the three leading causes of fatal crashes in Las Vegas.
