Superior Grocers expands Vegas footprint with second location

Las Vegas, NV – The California-based grocery chain that won over East Las Vegas residents earlier this year is doubling down on its Nevada expansion. Superior Grocers will celebrate the grand opening of its second Las Vegas Valley location on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, bringing its unique blend of Latin American specialties and traditional supermarket offerings to the Decatur corridor.
A morning of celebration
The new store at 390 S. Decatur Boulevard, near Alta Drive, will officially open its doors at 9 a.m., but festivities kick off early at 8:15 a.m. The celebration promises to be a vibrant community event featuring:
- Traditional Folklorico dance performances
- Opening remarks from company leadership
- A ceremonial church blessing
- Ribbon cutting ceremony
- Live entertainment throughout the morning
More than just a grand opening
Superior Grocers is pulling out all the stops to welcome the neighborhood. One fortunate shopper will drive away in a brand-new 2025 red Nissan Sentra through a special raffle drawing. The first 100 customers in line won’t go home empty-handed either – each will receive a complimentary bag of groceries and access to free food samples throughout the store.
In a gesture of community support, the company will present $2,000 donations to three local organizations: Red Rock Elementary School, Griffith Elementary School, and Grupo Folklorico Libertad.
Building on success
This marks a significant milestone for Superior Grocers as their second venture outside California. The company made its Nevada debut in March 2024 with a location at 1955 N. Nellis Boulevard in East Las Vegas, which has been drawing crowds with its distinctive offerings.
The Decatur location takes over the space previously occupied by Opportunity Village Thrift Store, which has relocated within the same shopping complex. Work permits filed earlier this year outlined plans for extensive renovations including a full-service deli and taqueria, bakery, meat and seafood departments, and other specialty areas.
What makes Superior different
Founded in 1981 in Covina, California, Superior Grocers has built its reputation on serving diverse communities with an emphasis on Latin American and Mexican products. The independently-owned chain now operates more than 70 locations across California and Nevada.
What sets Superior apart in the competitive Vegas grocery landscape is its commitment to authentic international offerings alongside traditional supermarket staples. The East Las Vegas location has gained particular attention for unexpected features like an in-store sushi station offering Mexican-fusion rolls – a nod to the growing popularity of Sinaloan-style sushi that combines traditional Japanese techniques with Mexican flavors like carne asada and spicy mayo.
Looking ahead
While company president Richard Wardwell has remained tight-lipped about future expansion plans, the rapid succession of two Vegas openings within 16 months suggests the chain sees significant opportunity in the valley. The strategic placement of stores – first in the diverse East Las Vegas community and now along the bustling Decatur corridor – indicates a thoughtful approach to serving different segments of the local market.
As Las Vegas continues to grow and diversify, Superior Grocers joins established players like Mariana’s Supermarkets, Cardenas Market, and La Bonita Supermarkets in catering to the valley’s expanding Latin American community while appealing to a broader customer base seeking quality international products at competitive prices.
