Police investigation shuts down West Sahara Avenue after apparent suicide

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police closed all lanes on West Sahara Avenue east of the Strip Friday morning following the discovery of a deceased individual in what investigators are treating as a suicide.
Morning commute disrupted
The incident occurred in the 200 block of West Sahara Avenue, prompting response from both LVMPD officers and the Clark County Coroner’s office in the early morning hours of August 15, 2025.
Police officials confirmed that preliminary investigation indicated the death was a suicide, though they did not release additional details about the circumstances or identity of the deceased individual.
Traffic impacts continue
The investigation forced the closure of all lanes in both directions at the central valley intersection, creating significant traffic delays during the morning commute. Police advised drivers to expect continued disruptions and seek alternate routes.
“Lanes are expected to remain closed until further notice,” LVMPD stated in their advisory to motorists.
The location, just east of the Las Vegas Strip, typically sees heavy traffic flow as commuters travel between residential areas and the resort corridor. The closure affects one of the major east-west arterial roads through the central Las Vegas Valley.
Investigation ongoing
While police have not provided a timeline for reopening the roadway, such investigations typically require several hours for proper documentation and evidence collection by detectives and coroner’s office personnel.
Motorists traveling through the area should plan for extended delays and consider alternative routes such as Desert Inn Road or Flamingo Avenue to navigate around the closure.
If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide, help is available 24/7 through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988.
