Northwest Las Vegas man identified as victim in fatal Monday house fire

75-year-old David Long found dead after neighbors report smoke from Feather Pine Street home
Authorities have identified the man who died in a Monday morning house fire in northwest Las Vegas as 75-year-old David Long, a property owner who was unable to escape when flames engulfed his single-story residence.
The Clark County coroner’s office confirmed Wednesday that Long was discovered deceased by Las Vegas Fire Department personnel responding to the blaze in the 7000 block of Feather Pine Street, near the intersection of Cimarron Road and Elkhorn Road. County property records indicate Long was listed as an owner of the home where he perished.
Neighbors unable to reach resident
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:47 a.m. Monday after receiving reports of smoke billowing from the single-story home. According to fire officials, the person who called 911 had attempted to alert anyone inside the residence but was unable to make contact with any occupants.
Las Vegas Fire Department crews arrived to find the house actively burning. Firefighters forced entry into the structure and worked to extinguish the flames before conducting a search of the premises. It was during this search that they discovered Long’s body inside the home.
Investigation continues
The coroner’s office has not yet determined the official cause and manner of Long’s death, with those findings still pending further investigation. Fire department officials estimated the blaze caused approximately $100,000 in damage to the property.
As of Wednesday, a Las Vegas Fire Department spokesperson could not be immediately reached to confirm whether investigators had determined what sparked the fatal fire or if the investigation remained ongoing.
The incident adds to the ongoing concerns about residential fire safety in the Las Vegas valley, particularly for elderly residents living alone. Fire safety experts recommend working smoke detectors on every level of a home and having an evacuation plan that all household members understand and can execute quickly in case of emergency.
