New Kids on the Block bring surprises and upgrades to Vegas residency

Boy band kicks off historic first Sin City residency with fan-focused experiences
The New Kids on the Block have successfully completed the first leg of their groundbreaking Las Vegas residency, delivering unforgettable moments and exclusive surprises that have left their devoted “Blockheads” clamoring for more. The legendary boy band – consisting of brothers Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood – wrapped up their initial eight shows of “The Right Stuff” residency at Dolby Live inside Park MGM with a celebration that exceeded expectations.
In a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on the milestone, NKOTB shared a series of photos from their performances, expressing gratitude to their fans: “That’s a wrap on the first 8 shows of #TheRightStuff. It went by in a flash. Thank you Blockheads for making it an epic 3 weeks! We’ll see you back at @parkmgm in November!”
Lifetime upgrades transform fan experiences
One of the most touching aspects of the residency has been the band’s commitment to creating magical moments for their fans. Throughout the first three weeks, several lucky Blockheads received surprise upgrades that transformed their concert experience entirely.
Multiple pairs of fans sporting vintage New Kids merchandise found themselves relocated from upper-level seats to premium spots right at the stage. One particularly memorable moment involved a mother-daughter duo who received the upgrade of a lifetime. Video footage captured the emotional scene as Donnie Wahlberg personally delivered a high-five to the mother, prompting her daughter to tearfully exclaim: “I’m so happy that my mom got to live out her 12-year-old dreams and see them so close.”
The band’s mascot, “Block-E,” also played a role in spreading joy throughout the venue, surprising fans with VIP Barstool upgrades that positioned them mere feet from their idols. These spontaneous gestures created viral moments on social media and reinforced the special bond between NKOTB and their fanbase.
Celebrating milestones with style
The timing of the residency’s launch proved serendipitous, coinciding with the 36th anniversary of their breakthrough hit “Hangin’ Tough.” The band marked this significant milestone with a special on-stage celebration that had the packed theater participating in the song’s iconic choreography.
One fan captured the essence of the moment in an Instagram comment: “One of my favorite things to do at the concert is look around the whole stadium to see all the BH waving their arms to Hangin’ Tough. It’s an experience!”
Star-studded surprises elevate performances
The residency took an unexpected turn when members of the Backstreet Boys crashed the stage during one of the performances. BSB members Howie Dorough and AJ McLean joined their fellow boy band veterans for an impromptu mini-reunion, referencing the NKOTBSB supergroup collaboration from 2010.
NKOTB commemorated the moment on social media with the caption: “A mini #NKOTBSB reunion at last nights show! Shout out to @AJ_Mclean and @Howie_Dorough!”
The surprise appearance was particularly fitting as the Backstreet Boys were in town preparing for their own upcoming “Millennium 2.0” residency at the Sphere, which launched on July 11.
Innovative production elements wow audiences
The residency showcases cutting-edge production values that could only be achieved in a dedicated Vegas venue. The show features multiple innovative elements, including a moving stage floor and five suspended platforms that elevate each member high above the crowd, creating intimate moments with fans throughout the 5,000-capacity theater.
“There’s definitely some things we’re doing here that we could never do on a tour,” Danny Wood explained in an interview. “Being in this theater, it comes with a lot of benefits – there’s already built-in features in the rafters, the lights and sound are already built into the place, so you have things in this show that you would never get out on a tour.”
The production incorporates archival footage spanning the band’s 40-year career, while elaborate set pieces bring their music videos to life, including a replica subway train and a white convertible that drives the performers onto stage.
Beyond the stage: Blockhead HQ experience
The NKOTB experience extends far beyond the Dolby Live theater. The band has created “Blockhead HQ” at Park MGM, an immersive fan destination featuring exclusive merchandise, photo opportunities with life-sized NKOTB doll boxes, exhibits filled with memorabilia, and NKOTB-themed food and beverages.
The space also hosts the “Formless Beauty by Jenny McCarthy Pop-Up Experience,” where fans can receive makeovers and meet Donnie Wahlberg’s wife. The venue has already seen surprise appearances from band members and their families, with Danny’s father “Big Dan” spotted taking photos with fans in the Blockhead Confetti Room.
Looking ahead to future dates
The overwhelming success of the first leg has generated tremendous anticipation for the residency’s return. NKOTB will perform additional shows November 1-15, 2025, before returning for a Valentine’s Day-themed run February 14-28, 2026.
The band has also announced special afterparty experiences hosted by Donnie Wahlberg at On The Record speakeasy inside Park MGM on select Saturday nights, along with promises of pool parties, solo member events, and other exclusive gatherings for Blockheads.
“We cherish every opportunity that we get to perform for our fans, but a Las Vegas residency gives us an opportunity to take our performance, and interaction with our fans, to the next level,” Wahlberg stated. “Las Vegas will never be the same after the New Kids and the Blockheads take over the town.”
With ticket packages starting at $79 and exclusive VIP experiences available through MGM Resorts, the New Kids on the Block have successfully created a Vegas residency that honors their legacy while pushing creative boundaries. As they prepare for their November return, one thing is certain: this is just the beginning of what promises to be a long and successful relationship between NKOTB and Las Vegas.
