NBA Summer League Day 2: Yang Hansen sparks excitement, Reed Sheppard shines again

Two standout performances light up Las Vegas courts
LAS VEGAS — Day 2 of the 2025 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas served up impressive showings from two rising stars: Yang Hansen of the Trail Blazers and Reed Sheppard of the Rockets.
Yang Hansen dazzles on debut
Seven-foot center Yang Hansen—a surprise No. 16 pick by the Portland Trail Blazers—made a splash in his Summer League debut. Tasked with being the offensive “hub” from the high post, Yang tallied 10 points, five assists, four rebounds, and even six fouls in a controlled, fun performance that energised the late-night Vegas crowd.
“Yang is fun to watch and very versatile,” Portland coach Ronnie Burrell praised, adding that Yang “played loose and relaxed” while showcasing facets of his game. Observers noted his playmaking instincts, strong court vision, and smooth touch around the rim—encouraging signs as he continues adjusting to NBA-level competition.
Reed Sheppard dominates in Rockets’ narrow loss
Houston Rockets guard Reed Sheppard put on a Summer League masterclass despite the Rockets falling 95-92 to the Clippers. Sheppard led all scorers with 28 points, hitting six three-pointers, while also contributing eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks. He kept the Rockets in the game with a late third-quarter surge, including a solo 9-0 run that narrowed the deficit.
His two-way impact sparked buzz about a potential sophomore breakout. Rockets assistant coach Garrett Jackson applauded his aggressive defense and sharpshooting, noting that Sheppard has become “one of the best shooters I’ve played with in a minute.”
What it means in Vegas
The Las Vegas Summer League, spanning July 10–20 at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion, continues to highlight emerging talent. With 76 total games, featuring rosters filled with recent draft picks, young vets, and two-way players, the event offers scouts, media, and fans a first glimpse of developing NBA prospects.
