Las Vegas woman gets 30 months for stealing 38 guns from Overton store

A federal judge has sentenced a Las Vegas woman to 30 months in prison for her role in stealing 38 firearms from a gun store in Overton and selling at least 20 of them on the black market.
Details of the crime
Alexis Breanna Worrell pleaded guilty to theft of firearms from a licensee and possession of stolen firearms. Her co-defendant, Dennis James Caputo, received a six-year sentence for the same charges.
On July 24, 2023, Worrell, Caputo, and a third individual drove from Las Vegas to Overton, where they targeted a Federal Firearms Licensee business after closing hours. According to court documents:
- Caputo climbed onto the roof and cut a hole to gain entry
- He disabled the motion-sensor alarm system
- Worrell waited at a nearby gas station for his signal
- Caputo filled two five-gallon buckets, a rifle case, and a bedsheet with stolen firearms
- Worrell helped load the weapons into their vehicle
Black market sales and recovery
Between July 25 and September 5, 2023, the pair sold and transferred the stolen firearms to multiple buyers. The illegal sales have had serious consequences:
- At least 20 firearms were sold illegally
- 9 guns have been recovered from 5 prohibited persons engaged in criminal activities
- 4 firearms remain unaccounted for
- The recovered weapons were found in the hands of criminals throughout the Las Vegas valley
Criminal histories
Both defendants had extensive criminal backgrounds:
Worrell: Previously convicted of methamphetamine trafficking in Clark County
Caputo: Multiple felony drug convictions in Oregon counties (Douglas, Clackamas, and Coos) and a burglary conviction in Cowlitz County, Washington
Sentencing details
U.S. District Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey imposed the following sentences:
- Worrell: 30 months in federal prison plus 2 years supervised release
- Caputo: 6 years in federal prison
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, with prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.
