Las Vegas offers financial help for water leak repairs and lead paint removal

The City of Las Vegas has launched two programs to help qualifying homeowners address critical home safety issues, offering up to $7,500 for water leak repairs and free lead paint remediation for families with young children.
Water leak repair assistance program
In partnership with the Las Vegas Valley Water District, the city is providing financial assistance to help low-income homeowners fix active water leaks that can cost thousands of dollars to repair.
Program highlights:
- Up to $7,500 in financial assistance per household
- Covers repairs to plumbing systems and service lines connecting homes to water meters
- City staff help obtain repair estimates and select licensed contractors
- Contractors are paid directly by the program upon completion
Eligibility requirements:
- Home must be within Las Vegas city limits
- Primary residence of the homeowner
- Annual household income below 80% of area median income:
- $76,150 for a family of four
- $53,350 for single occupants
The $500,000 program is funded through excessive use charges paid by the water district’s highest water users.
Lead paint remediation program
A separate initiative offers free lead-hazard assessments and remediation to protect young children from lead poisoning in older homes.
Program features:
- Completely free for eligible households
- Funded by a 48-month federal grant from HUD’s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes
- Includes comprehensive lead assessments and professional remediation
Eligibility for homeowners:
- Property built before 1978
- Child under 6 years old living in or frequently visiting the home
- Household meets HUD income guidelines
- Located within Las Vegas city limits
Additional requirements for rental property owners:
- Must give priority to families with children under 6 for three years if property becomes vacant
- Tenant household must meet income guidelines
How to apply
City Neighborhood Services staff assist homeowners throughout both programs, from application through project completion. The water leak repair program helps coordinate with contractors and handles all payments directly.
For the lead paint program, interested residents can register online through the city’s website.
These programs address critical health and safety needs while helping low-income families avoid expensive repairs that could otherwise go unaddressed, potentially saving water and protecting children from lead exposure.
