Labor Day DUI blitz nets 42 arrests across Las Vegas valley

Multi-agency effort results in nearly 1,000 traffic stops over holiday weekend
Law enforcement agencies across the Las Vegas valley arrested 42 people for driving under the influence during a concentrated enforcement effort over the Labor Day holiday weekend, demonstrating the ongoing battle against impaired driving in Southern Nevada.
The “DUI Super Blitz” ran from Saturday, August 30 through Monday, September 1, bringing together officers from multiple agencies including all Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department area commands, LVMPD traffic division, Boulder City Police Department, and Nevada State Police.
Enforcement by the numbers
The coordinated operation yielded significant enforcement activity across the valley:
- 955 traffic stops conducted
- 631 citations issued
- 42 DUI arrests
- 8 additional arrests for unspecified charges
- 1 firearm recovered during the operation
The multi-agency approach allowed law enforcement to saturate high-risk areas throughout the holiday weekend, traditionally one of the deadliest periods on valley roads due to increased alcohol consumption and celebration-related activities.
Part of broader traffic safety push
The Labor Day DUI blitz aligns with Metro’s recently announced initiative targeting the valley’s 12 most dangerous intersections, where officers are focusing on the three main factors in fatal crashes: speeding, failure to yield, and impairment.
With 108 traffic-related deaths already recorded in Metro’s jurisdiction this year, the department is working aggressively to stay below its goal of 125 or fewer fatalities for 2025. Last year saw 159 traffic deaths, making this year’s reduction efforts critical.
Success building on previous efforts
LVMPD Traffic Lieutenant Cody Fulwiler had previously noted that similar DUI blitzes during Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends achieved zero fatalities, providing a model for the department’s expanded enforcement strategy. The 42 arrests during Labor Day weekend, while concerning, may have prevented numerous potential tragedies.
“Remember, there are too many safe options to drive impaired!” LVMPD emphasized in their statement, pointing to ride-sharing services, designated drivers, and public transportation as alternatives to getting behind the wheel after drinking.
As the valley heads into the traditionally dangerous holiday season, law enforcement agencies plan to continue these concentrated enforcement efforts to protect residents and visitors from the devastating consequences of impaired driving.
