Former Metro officer sentenced to 47 years for child sex crimes

Ex-cop exploited toddler and possessed child sexual abuse material over decade-long period
A Las Vegas man with a disturbing history of child exploitation has been sentenced to 47 years in federal prison for sexually abusing a toddler and possessing child sexual abuse material involving multiple minors.
Damian Amalfitano pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Richard F. Boulware II handed down the sentence and ordered Amalfitano to pay $2,000 to the Amy, Vicky, and Andy Child Pornography Victim Assistance fund.
Decade of abuse uncovered
Court documents reveal Amalfitano sexually abused a 2-year-old child from at least September 2010 through October 2021, creating child sexual abuse material in the process. Federal investigators discovered approximately 350 images and six videos of CSAM on two of his electronic devices, featuring children as young as toddlers.
The defendant also admitted to engaging in sexually explicit conduct with three additional minor victims during this period.
“Damian Amalfitano posed a significant threat to children as demonstrated by his repeated perverse and sick exploitation,” said Acting Special Agent in Charge Nathaniel Holland for the FBI Las Vegas Division. “Today’s sentencing reflects our unwavering commitment to pursuing justice for our most vulnerable victims.”
History of offenses and law enforcement background
Amalfitano’s criminal history dates back to 2007 when he was arrested for molesting a 13-year-old girl. Investigators found sexual images of children on his computer during that investigation. Initially placed on probation, he violated the terms and was sent to prison, being released in 2015 according to his own court statements in August 2022.
At the time of his 2007 arrest, Amalfitano was a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer with six years on the force. He was immediately relieved of duty following the arrest.
Lifetime monitoring
As part of his sentence, Amalfitano must register as a sex offender and maintain current registration wherever he lives, works, or attends school. Following his eventual release from federal prison, he will face strict supervision requirements.
