Father of Celtics star Jaylen Brown arrested for Las Vegas park stabbing

The father of NBA champion Jaylen Brown was arrested Wednesday night following a violent stabbing at a Las Vegas park that allegedly began over a minor parking dispute.
Parking lot altercation turns violent
Quenton Marselles Brown, 57, was booked Thursday morning on suspicion of attempted murder after the incident at All American Park on Buffalo Drive near Charleston Boulevard. The former professional boxer, who stands 7 feet tall and weighs 300 pounds, allegedly stabbed youth football coach Cross Tupuola multiple times following an argument that began with a door ding.
According to police reports, the altercation started when Brown exited the passenger side of a Lincoln Navigator and the door struck Tupuola’s vehicle. When the 5’9″, 160-pound coach got out to check for damage, Brown reportedly called him a derogatory name and dismissed the contact as “just a bump.”
Multiple stab wounds inflicted
Witnesses told Las Vegas Metropolitan Police that after Tupuola slapped the SUV’s mirror in response, Brown challenged him to fight. When Tupuola turned his back, Brown allegedly pursued him with a knife, stabbing him in the back before attacking him multiple times in the stomach area.
One witness reported seeing the taller man swing his knife at the victim approximately 25 times. The victim’s girlfriend drove him to a pharmacy near Fort Apache Road and Sahara Avenue to await medical assistance.
Tupuola sustained severe injuries including stab wounds to his back, upper right chest, and left hand, along with defensive wounds. Medical personnel reported he required emergency surgery, including a partial gastrectomy to remove part of his digestive system, treatment for eviscerated bowels, and a broken right rib. He remains in critical condition.
Swift arrest and legal proceedings
Police obtained a vehicle description and partial license plate, stopping a matching SUV on southbound U.S. 95 near Decatur Boulevard. Officers found Brown in the passenger seat with abrasions on his knees and bleeding from his face. Before being questioned, he spontaneously stated the incident was “all over a door ding.”
Brown declined to be interviewed after being taken to UMC for treatment. Crime scene investigators seized his blood-stained clothing but were unable to locate the weapon used in the attack.
During his Thursday court appearance, Brown’s attorney Arnold Weinstock claimed his client acted in self-defense, alleging Tupuola had a gun and pistol-whipped Brown—details not included in the police report. The judge set bail at $300,000 with the requirement of an ankle monitor if released.
Previous incidents and family connection
Court records indicate Brown had a prior arrest in Henderson in 2016 on suspicion of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. The former heavyweight boxer retired with a professional record of 33-18-1 with 25 knockouts, winning the WBU World Championship title in 2016.
His son, Jaylen Brown, is a four-time NBA All-Star who led the Boston Celtics to the 2024 championship and earned Finals MVP honors. Sources indicate the younger Brown, who was drafted by the Celtics in 2016, does not maintain a close relationship with his father and was unaware of the arrest when the news broke.
Brown’s next court hearing is scheduled for September 9 before Judge Kristal Bradford.
