Family seeks justice as police release new video in fatal Las Vegas hit-and-run

Elderly woman killed doing everything right in marked crosswalk
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and the family of 81-year-old Margaret “Peggy” Brown are renewing their plea for public assistance in locating the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that occurred nearly a month ago in the southwest valley.
Brown was struck and killed while crossing Desert Inn Road at Grand Canyon Drive on June 13, 2025, just before 10 p.m. According to police, she was lawfully using a marked crosswalk with the walk signal when a vehicle making a right turn struck her and fled the scene.
“It is no secret that a major factor in traffic fatalities is pedestrian error. However, Peggy did everything right that night,” Lieutenant Cody Fulwiler of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department emphasized at a recent press conference. “She walked in a marked crosswalk at the appropriate time but somehow lost her life at the hands of a driver who cowardly left the scene.”
New video evidence released
In an effort to generate leads, police released surveillance footage showing what investigators believe to be the suspect vehicle – a dark-colored 2016-2019 Nissan Sentra. The grainy video captures the car in the area at the time of the collision.
Brown was immediately transported to University Medical Center’s Trauma Center following the crash, where she later died from her injuries. The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
A family’s heartbreak
The tragedy is particularly painful for Brown’s family, as she had only recently relocated to Las Vegas. Her brother Joe Brown had convinced her to move from out of state to be closer to family.
“I decided I wanted to watch out for Peg, so I talked her into moving to Las Vegas just in January of this year. Little did I know what might follow,” Joe Brown said, his voice heavy with emotion. “It’s very, very sad. Peg was as sweet as anyone you ever met.”
During her brief time in Las Vegas, family members say Brown quickly made friends and became a beloved presence in her brother’s family. “She loved her family, loved dogs, and never missed anybody’s birthday,” said Tina Brown, fighting back tears. “We are devastated that somebody hurt her and left her in the road and didn’t help her.”
Call for community assistance
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section continues to actively investigate the case. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash, has information about the driver, or recognizes the vehicle to come forward.
Detective information can be provided by calling the Collision Investigation Section directly at (702) 828-3595. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or submit tips online at CrimeStoppersOfNV.com.
As the investigation continues, Brown’s family holds onto hope that someone will provide the crucial piece of information needed to bring closure to this case and justice for a woman who did everything right on that tragic June evening.
