East Las Vegas Mexican restaurant shuttered after failed health re-inspection

Los Tacos on Charleston Boulevard hit with critical violations, ordered to close
Health inspectors ordered the immediate closure of Los Tacos Mexican restaurant following a failed re-inspection on Friday that revealed multiple critical violations, including inadequate refrigeration and pest control issues.
The restaurant, located at 1710 E. Charleston Boulevard in East Charleston Plaza, received a demerit score of 14 during the August 29 inspection conducted by the Southern Nevada Health District. The violations were serious enough to warrant a temporary closure order until all issues are resolved.
Critical violations lead to shutdown
Inspectors documented several major concerns during their visit to the establishment. The most significant problems included improper food temperature control, with refrigeration units failing to maintain food items at safe temperatures as required by health guidelines.
Additionally, inspectors found that kitchen equipment was not properly maintained or operated, creating conditions that could lead to cross-contamination between food items. The facility’s pest control measures were deemed inadequate, with inspectors noting multiple points where pests could potentially enter the premises.
The overall condition of the facility was cited as unsound and poorly maintained, contributing to what health officials classified as an “imminent health hazard” that necessitated immediate closure.
Health department’s enforcement process
The Southern Nevada Health District conducts routine inspections of all food establishments in Clark County at least once annually. When violations are discovered during initial inspections, re-inspections are scheduled to verify that problems have been corrected.
According to SNHD regulations, establishments that accumulate 41 or more demerits, fail a “C” grade re-inspection, or present imminent health hazards are subject to immediate closure. Los Tacos must now correct all major and critical violations, pay applicable closure fees, and schedule another re-inspection before being allowed to reopen.
The restaurant will remain closed until it can demonstrate compliance with all health codes and pass a full re-inspection with 10 or fewer demerits and no repeat violations. Health department officials warn that repeated violations could result in more severe enforcement actions.
