E-bike rider becomes 100th traffic fatality after running stop sign

A man in his 40s or 50s died Saturday afternoon after his e-bike collided with two vehicles in east Las Vegas, marking a grim milestone as the 100th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2025.
Details of the fatal collision
The crash occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Baltimore Street and Frank Street, near East Sahara Avenue and South Nellis Boulevard. According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, the man was riding a Montta All-Terrain E-bike northbound on Frank Street when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
The e-bike struck the right side of a 2023 Chevrolet 3500 that was traveling eastbound on Baltimore Street. After the initial impact, the rider was redirected and collided with a parked 2007 Toyota Camry nearby.
Emergency medical personnel transported the rider to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Chevrolet showed no signs of impairment and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators. The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Rising concerns over e-bike safety
The fatal crash comes amid growing concerns about e-bike safety across the Las Vegas Valley. Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill recently highlighted the lack of public safety education regarding e-bikes and noted an uptick in injuries and fatalities.
“These things are going 28, some of them 40 mph, when they’re modified. Young kids should just not have these things,” McMahill stated during a recent discussion about e-bike safety.
In response to safety concerns, Clark County implemented new e-bike regulations in May 2025. The ordinance establishes speed limits in county parks, requires safety equipment, and prohibits reckless behaviors such as stunts and wheelies. Fines for violations range up to $600.
Traffic deaths reach troubling milestone
The e-bike rider’s death represents the 100th traffic fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction this year, highlighting ongoing road safety challenges in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. For comparison, the same milestone was reached on September 12 in 2022, suggesting traffic deaths are occurring at a faster pace in 2025.
Recent data shows Las Vegas experiences approximately 54 traffic accidents daily, with speed, impaired driving, and failure to follow traffic laws being leading causes of fatal crashes. Saturday’s incident underscores how disregarding basic traffic rules—such as stopping at stop signs—can have deadly consequences.
Safety reminders for e-bike riders
Under Nevada law, e-bike riders must follow the same traffic rules as traditional bicycles, including:
- Obeying all traffic signals and stop signs
- Riding with the flow of traffic
- Using proper lighting when riding at night
- Wearing helmets (mandatory for riders under 18)
Las Vegas police continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section at 702-828-3595. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
