Beloved Shih Tzu stolen from southwest Vegas condo in brazen daylight theft

Owner offers cash reward, no questions asked for 12-year-old dog’s safe return
A Las Vegas pet owner is desperately searching for her 12-year-old Shih Tzu after Ring doorbell footage captured someone stealing the dog from outside her southwest valley home in broad daylight.
The theft occurred at the Vizcaya Apartments complex near Tropicana Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard, where Danielle Luber’s dog Jordan was taken by a person on a bicycle in a matter of seconds. The security footage shows the suspect approaching the condo’s entrance, grabbing the small dog, and quickly riding away.
“I just hope that he’s ok. I hope he’s in someone’s air conditioning and that someone sees this and knows he has a family,” Luber told local media, describing Jordan as not just a pet but a companion and best friend who has been part of her family for years.
Police report filed as owner pleads for help
Luber has filed a report with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and shared the doorbell video across social media platforms hoping someone will recognize the person responsible. She has been canvassing the neighborhood around Tropicana and Rainbow, distributing flyers and speaking with residents.
In an emotional plea, Luber emphasized she harbors no anger toward the thief and is solely focused on Jordan’s safe return. “I’m not mad at all, I just want Jordan back no questions asked. I have a cash reward, and I will meet her if she still has him and give her the money with no charges. I don’t care, I just want my dog back,” she said.
The 12-year-old male Shih Tzu requires regular care typical of senior dogs, adding urgency to the search efforts.
Pet theft remains ongoing concern in Las Vegas
While this incident has shocked the local community, pet theft is not unprecedented in Las Vegas. In 2019, three members of a Las Vegas family were charged with running an elaborate dog theft scheme that lasted over a year, involving various ruses to steal and resell dogs for profit.
Pet safety experts recommend several precautions:
- Never leave pets unattended outside, even briefly
- Ensure pets are microchipped with updated contact information
- Keep current photos of pets for identification purposes
- Install security cameras around property entrances
Resources for lost and stolen pets
Las Vegas has several resources available for pet owners dealing with lost or stolen animals:
The Animal Foundation (655 N. Mojave Road) serves as the primary shelter for lost pets found in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Clark County. Pets are held for 72 hours before becoming available for adoption, giving owners time to reclaim them.
Online resources like Petco Love Lost use facial recognition technology to match lost pets with found animals in the area. The Lost and Found Dogs of Las Vegas and Henderson Facebook group also provides a platform for sharing information about missing pets.
Microchipping, which will become mandatory in Las Vegas for all dogs and cats over four months old starting August 2024, significantly increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners. Local veterinarians and The Animal Foundation offer affordable microchipping services.
How to help
Anyone with information about Jordan’s whereabouts or who recognizes the individual in the security footage is urged to contact:
- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police: 702-828-3111
- Crime Stoppers (anonymous): 702-385-5555
- Danielle Luber directly: 618-581-5003
As of Tuesday evening, no suspects have been identified in the case. The incident serves as a reminder for pet owners to remain vigilant about their animals’ safety, particularly in apartment complexes and other shared living spaces where pets may be more vulnerable to theft.
For Luber, every day without Jordan is agonizing. She continues to hold out hope that someone will come forward with information leading to her beloved companion’s safe return home.
