Summerlin-area mental health clinic owner avoids jail in Medicaid fraud case

The Healing Tree Wellness Center and owner face nearly $200,000 in restitution for false billing
A Las Vegas mental health clinic owner has been sentenced to probation after her company was convicted of submitting fraudulent Medicaid claims, marking another case in Nevada’s ongoing efforts to combat healthcare fraud.
Marjorie Landron, 48, owner of The Healing Tree Wellness Center near Summerlin Parkway and Town Center Drive, received a suspended jail sentence Thursday from District Court Judge Jennifer Schwartz. While she was sentenced to 364 days in jail, the sentence was suspended, and she was placed on probation instead.
Company convicted of felony fraud
The case stems from an investigation by the Nevada Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU), which uncovered a pattern of false billing practices at the mental health facility. In November 2024, Landron’s company was convicted of a felony for submitting false Medicaid claims and ordered to pay $198,000 in restitution.
The investigation began after Nevada Medicaid officials reported suspicious billing patterns to the Attorney General’s Office. When investigators requested documentation to support the services allegedly provided to Medicaid recipients, the clinic could not produce the required records.
Records reveal services never provided
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the investigation revealed that The Healing Tree Wellness Center had billed Medicaid for mental health services that were never actually provided to patients. This type of fraud diverts critical resources away from legitimate healthcare needs of Nevada’s most vulnerable populations.
Landron herself was convicted of intentional failure to maintain adequate records, a gross misdemeanor. As the owner of the facility, she was responsible for ensuring proper documentation of all services provided to Medicaid patients. The absence of these records made it impossible to verify that the billed services had actually been delivered.
Additional financial penalties
Beyond the $198,000 in restitution ordered for the company, Landron was also required to pay enforcement costs to the Attorney General’s Office, though the specific amount was not disclosed. These additional costs help offset the expense of investigating and prosecuting healthcare fraud cases.
Attorney General emphasizes protection of vulnerable populations
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford condemned the fraudulent practices, emphasizing the harm such schemes cause to the state’s healthcare system and its most vulnerable residents.
“Healthcare providers who defraud Medicaid are stealing from Nevada’s most vulnerable residents and taxpayers who fund these essential services,” Ford said in a statement. “My office will continue to pursue those who exploit our healthcare system and ensure they face the full consequences of their actions.”
Background on The Healing Tree Wellness Center
The Healing Tree Wellness Center operates in the Summerlin area and advertises various mental health services. According to public records, the facility has offered services including individual therapy, couples counseling, anger management, and other mental health treatments.
The case serves as a warning to other healthcare providers about the serious consequences of Medicaid fraud. Nevada’s Medicaid program provides essential healthcare services to low-income residents, including children, pregnant women, elderly individuals, and people with disabilities.
Ongoing enforcement efforts
This sentencing represents part of broader enforcement efforts by Nevada authorities to combat healthcare fraud. The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit continues to investigate reports of fraudulent billing and other schemes that drain resources from the state’s healthcare safety net.
Healthcare providers are required by law to maintain accurate records of all services provided to Medicaid recipients and to bill only for services actually rendered. Failure to do so can result in both criminal charges and civil penalties, as demonstrated in this case.
