Jack Eichel returns to field for fundraising Battle for Vegas softball event

Vegas Golden Knights star leads team in sixth annual charity showdown
Las Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel is set to lead his team at the 6th annual Battle for Vegas charity softball event, taking place Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Las Vegas Ballpark. This year’s proceeds support the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation, which distributes funds to notable local beneficiaries including the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, Make‑A‑Wish Nevada, and Assisting Lives in Las Vegas.
Best Buddies holds special place in Eichel’s heart
While the event supports several causes, Eichel champions Best Buddies International, a nonprofit dedicated to pairing volunteers with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. He first connected with the organization in 2017 during a Best Buddies event in Boston and was drawn to its mission of inclusion and friendship—values inspired by his sister Jessie’s work in special needs education.
Eichel credits the personal impact of Best Buddies, calling its mission “something that grabbed my heart.” That connection made participating in the Las Vegas charity game a natural fit once he joined the Golden Knights.
Community impact through sport
Originally captained by Reilly Smith, the Knights softball squad is now led by Eichel, following Smith’s departure in 2023. Event creator James Sullivan reached out to Eichel, inviting him to take on the captain’s role—a role Eichel embraced as an opportunity to combine sport with giving back.
Eichel emphasizes the importance of athletes using their platform for positive change in the community that supports them: “Our position as athletes…we have such an opportunity to make an impact on people in a positive way.”
Event history and highlights
Since its 2019 debut, the Battle for Vegas has become a fixture in Vegas philanthropy, raising over $1 million for various charitable organizations. The event brings together professional athletes and celebrities, featuring a Home Run Derby, softball game, and post-game fireworks.
This year’s game features two all-star teams, captained by Jack Eichel for the Golden Knights and Brock Bowers for the Las Vegas Raiders. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the Home Run Derby starting at 7 p.m., first pitch at 8 p.m., and fireworks to follow.
Looking ahead
Eichel’s leadership and commitment to causes like Best Buddies continue to deepen his connection to the Vegas community. Fans and residents can look forward to a night of fun, competition, and unity—knowing their support will extend far beyond the ballpark.
